The Herscher American Legion Post was chartered in 1936 with 15 members. Membership today is 102. The Legion conducts memorial services to all service members who served in the U.S. military.
The Legion also conducts and annual Memorial Day Service and Poppy Day sales in May. Christmas parties and steak fries are also held annually. The Legion also sponsors from 1-4 students of junior high age, to Boys State, at Charleston, Illinios every June.
Starting in 1995, the Legion has sponsored a Little League ball team of the Herscher area. Membership information is available from any officer or member. To be eligible for membership, one must have served in the U.S. military for at least one day during hostilities, and have an honorable discharge or better.
